“May day, May day, Mother’s day is just around the corner, what are we going to get mom?”

Today is May 1st, May Day.  It’s actually a day that always makes me think about my mom.  I like to send flowers to her on May Day.  Just as a way to say I love you and thank her for all she has done for me.  It started way back when I was a little girl.  My family lived in California for a year when I was 9.  On May Day I picked flowers with my friend (or maybe it was one of my sisters, I’m not really sure).  We wrapped the stems in damp paper towels and tin foil and tip toed up to our neighbor’s door, left the flowers and rang the bell and ran.  We thought it was a great celebration.  And thankfully so did the neighbors even though we had picked the flowers she had recently PLANTED!  Oops!  My mom never yelled about that, in fact she celebrated the kindness we showed by “sharing” the flowers with our neighbors.

My mom loves daisies.  And today (let’s hope she’s not reading this til after the delivery), I called my favorite local florist because I couldn’t get there to bring them myself.  I know she’ll know they are from me as soon as the doorbell rings!  I can see the smile on her face just because I remembered.
